威廉‧薩默塞特‧毛姆

　　1874年1月25日生於巴黎，是英國著名的小說家與劇作家，他的作品以取材廣泛、洞悉人性、清晰樸素見長，極為膾炙人口。他畢業於聖托馬斯醫院，原來是一名婦產科醫生，在此期間，他以做婦產科醫生的經驗為題材，創作了長篇小說《蘭貝斯的麗莎》，之後棄醫從文，開始七十年的寫作生涯，他的主要成就是小說創作。

　　毛姆雖然對人類的善良與智慧均持懷疑的態度，而且是一個無可奈何的無神論者，然而一生幽默而豁達，著名的作品有《人性枷鎖》、《月亮和六便士》等。
